Importance of electrical protection systems

During the development of a project, the electrical design must contemplate two very relevant aspects; the care for people and the reliability of the operation.

Already in the early stages of the project, it is desirable to have a robust electrical protection scheme, which should include critical controls to mitigate and isolate the electrical risk. This plan will be complemented in later stages with workshops that will include different points of view of the project (HSEC, constructors, etc.), in order to perfect the result of the electrical design.

The most important element in the protection systems are the protective earths, because when an insulation fault protection operates, the fault clearance will be through the protective earths and not through people or equipment. In this sense, it is important to periodically verify the measurement of the grounding resistance.

A well-monitored and maintained protection scheme allows to reduce attention and clearing times of faults, increasing the availability time of the electrical supply to the operation.

Among the tasks performed by Chking Ingeniería are the different engineering phases for a project of this type, developments carried out by experts with experience in different mining and engineering companies in order to verify that the Chloride Leaching process works under optimal conditions.
